Steeped in pithy slapback echo, bellowing tremolo, and fuzz tones that would make Davie Allan blush, Heavy Trash is a collaboration between Blues Explosion founder Jon Spencer and rockabilly weirdo/guitarist Matt Verta-Ray. The duo’s take on rockabilly isn’t exactly by the book, as many of the tunes sport more complexity than your average ’billy fare. But Verta-Ray’s sonic trip is clearly informed by the giants of raw rockabilly tone such as Paul Burlison and Link Wray. When you find anything wrong with that, please let me know.
