Jon Spencer's rockabilly detour with Speedball Baby guitarist Matt Verta-Ray

The Blues Explosion's arguable blueprint for The White Stripes always lacked the Detroit duo's immersion in their shared Delta source; on record, at least, Spencer never means it as much. Heavy Trash are a substantial sidestep to similar effect. Recorded in Verta-Ray's analogue studio, the reverb-drenched Sun sound has been lovingly approximated in clean, simple style, along with its lyrics' delinquent disaffection. There are detours into proto-garage and Sticky.

Fingers-era Stones, folk ballads and phased psychedelia in what is ultimately a faintly pointless but heartelt pastiche.
