"The Lost Chord" is the new album from Nashville resident Doug Powell, a former member of Swag and noted Todd Rundgren pal. This is his first album for Parasol, following previous solo releases for Mercury and Not Lame. Powell holed up in his one-man studio and emerged with something that is a bit of a departure from his previous solo work, far more experimental in writing and in production/performance than anything he's ever done, with a strong emphasis on abstract sounds and texturing. It is on the fringe of Pop but definitely still Pop. The new album features Powell's full-on pop production, intricately layered, from grandiose 70's rock epics to eccentric soft-pop serenades.
