Rock en Espanol a NY Post "Hot Pick" - 3.5 stars
Because Los Straitjackets wear Lucha Libre masks when they perform, it's always been hard to accept the band as anything but a novelty act. Gimmicks aside, on their latest CD, Rock En Espanol, the Nashville-based quartet dishes up some seriously entertaining music
that pays tribute to the '60s and the forgotten heroes of Mexican rock who translated the originals into Spanish. With help from a number of pals - most notably Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos - the masked marvels deliver classics such as the Kinks "De Dia y De Noche" ("All Day and All of the Night"), "Popotitos" ("Bony Maronie") and the Troggs hit 'Loco Te Patina El Coco" - you know, "Wild Thing." A fun record with loads of heart and soul. - Dan Aquilante, NY Post |
