Chart Attack talks Twist Party

"It may have taken Jack Black's summertime Nacho Libre movie to introduce non-wrestling fans to the high-flying world of Mexican grappling, but discerning music fans have been combining a taste for Lucha Libre and twangy surf guitar sounds via Los Straitjackets for more than a dozen years.

The Nashville-based quartet have kept their identities secret behind Mexican wrestling masks through the release of eight albums, countless concerts, television appearances and film and TV song placements. Things haven't changed in that respect with their latest LP, Twist Party, which will be released on October 3 by Yep Roc.

What has changed, however, is the inclusion of Kaiser George from Scottish beat combo The Kaisers, who adds his vocals (along with guitar, saxophone and organ) to many songs on the record. Los Straitjackets featured 11 guest vocalists — including Big Sandy, The Mavericks' Raul Malo, Reverend Horton Heat, Sixpence None The Richer's Leigh Nash and Dave Alvin — on 2001's Sing Along With album, but they're primarily known as an instrumental group who put an entertaining twist to a style of music first popularized by the likes of Dick Dale, The Ventures, Link Wray and Duane Eddy."
