The warm, hypnotic keys and slinking rhythms that kick off Dolorean's third album set a subdued mood, Al James' gentle voice immediately resigned to heartache. Lush but spaciously rendered, You Can't Win contains the kind of subtle melodicism that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.

Like a hybrid of Radar Bros. and Elliott Smith, the patient, bruised songwriting often sounds like a knowing '70s singer-songwriter, albeit in druggy slow-motion. If you take your love songs with a dose of sorrow, You Can't Win is sepia-toned soundtrack to your next road trip.
