The High Dials

Back in the late ‘90s the Montreal based The Datson Four were packing clubs, throwing their own “all-nighter” parties, and dishing-out their second long-player See! The album received great reviews at home (scoring Album of the Year from Montreal’s Ici) and abroad.
Fast forward to 2002: The Datson Four have a brand new, eagerly anticipated album ready for the racks, a new home (with international guitar pop label Rainbow Quartz), and an urgency to just get out and play. Then along come New Zealand’s The Datsuns and The D4.
The Datson Four now have a very difficult decision to make regarding their name. Fortunately longtime fan Little Steven (E-Street Band) swayed the vote and the band headed towards a change. And with the new name came a newfound live energy and confidence. And all this energy is about to be unleashed on music fans around the world.
The band has begun their final ascent… welcome The High Dials.
The new album A New Devotion is a brilliant recording of jangle, psychedelia and colorful melodies: reminiscent of a psychedelicized Squeeze backed by The Clash. Their fantastic song structure would surely make the guys in Teardrop Explodes and Echo and The Bunnymen gush with pride.

The album is about as ambitious as a pop album can get. The 18 songs tell the story of a mysterious character known only as "Silas" and his attempt to escape unseen powers in a nightmarish city of the future. Lead singer / songwriter Trevor Anderson adds: “A lot of the songs are about that magic, a perfect place we've lost and want back”

A conceptual record is not a common occurrence on today’s musical landscape. As Trevor notes: “We're inspired by the more adventurous bands out there who still try to make great albums. The Flaming Lips are a prime example. I like a good vapid pop tune like the next guy, but it's the albums – the ones that keep giving up new secrets: those are the ones we really hunger for.“

The band cites many influences affecting the sonic textures of A New Devotion: Pink Floyd, Love, CSNY, John Barry, Air, Blur, the Kinks and Curtis Mayfield. Trevor adds: “We wanted to keep the RnB grooves and rich harmonies…there's a wider range on this record, some quieter moments too.”

The band has toured Canada three times, and played several high profile shows in the USA. Past highlights from their live history include shows with Supergrass, the Sadies, the Gruesomes, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Cornershop and the Zombies!

The High Dials are Trevor Anderson (singer / songwriter), Rishi Dhir (bass guitar), Robb Surridge (drums), and lead guitarist Robbie MacArthur. Anticipation for the new record has been building for two years and the band is psyched to get back to the live music scene.
