Last, but not least, I would be remiss not to mention the very fine new album, Time And Water, by the Washington area's WAMMIE award-winning "best band" Last Train Home. Front man Eric Brace's lead vocals are as smooth as silk, and the band's musicianship is just as tight as ever. The twelve tracks on Time And Water showcase the band's ability to blend country, rock, pop, folk, jazz and salsa to everyone's delight. As good as they sound on CD, you owe it to yourself to see these guys live (they perform regularly at Arlington, Virginia's IOTA - a superb venue for rising acts), because their harmonies are spellbinding and they often invite other local luminaries to join them onstage for some extended rock numbers. Given a proper dance floor (the Birchmere Bandstand or the Barns of Wolf Trap), most fans will country-swing across the hardwood boards to the band's infectious melodies. Long may you run, Last Train Home!
