KALEIDOSCOPE of The University of Alabama reviews Leisure McCorkle's new album "Jet Set Baby"
Singer/songwriter Leisure McCorkle breaks new ground with his much anticipated release "Jet Set Baby." Hailing from Charlotte, NC, McCorkle's sound is all but mundane. Far from his solo album of piano ballads, McCorkle's new backing band, The Empire of Sound, has proven to be much success. This latest release is a true pop/rock record with powerful riffs and good songwriting.
The first single, "She Can't Count the Stars," begins with smooth guitar hooks and distinct drum beats which introduce lyrics such as, "I almost fell of the world last night in her eyes." Lines such as this and "all she needs is a man like me," prove McCorkle's neverending journey with relationships. Similarly, the song "Blum's Lullaby" is a classic pop rock song that is also lyrically powerful. Although several songs have references to relationships, many songs prove otherwise. The track "Alcohol," which is full of '50s style guitar hooks, is a less serious song about alcohol and being young. The most powerful song on the album, "Serenade," is raw guitar at its finest. This track is reminiscent of pure '80s rock with well-crafted harmonies. In a way, McCorkle has successfully created an album full of different musical styles and has combined catchy pop tunes with classic rock. For any music fans searching for refreshing pop/rock, "Jet Set Baby" is all you need.
