ENTERTAINMENT TODAY recommends LEISURE McCORKLE show at the Gig in Hollywood alongside BECK, The FLAMING LIPS, CYPRESS HILL, and BRYAN FERRY
With an unusual name, bald pate and a pop style that borrows equally from Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello without xeroxing either, this North Carolina-based pop hipster has just released a fine new album on MoRisen Records, "Jet Set Baby", the release of which he will be celebrating at the GIg in Hollywood on Saturday night. Bristling with hooks aplenty and more energy than most pop ventures, Leisure describes it as being "like when the '70's met the '80's," and which pretty well sums up the vibe. It manages to sound surprisingly fresh, and live, this power pop could well curl the paint off the walls at the Gig. I have a feeling that come next year, this band will be back to play IPO–just call it a hunch. But here's your chance to catch them first, early on as the Leisure machine gets cranked up and rolling. Don't say I didn't tip you off... (PA)
