Marah returns with "Angels of Destruction!" on Yep Roc, January 8

New album marks the culmination of a great American band

Marah's new album Angels of Destruction! finds the band in a brave new world; new state of mind, new members and a new sound. The Philadelphia sextet, led by brothers David and Serge Bielanko and energized by newest member Christine Smith (pianist from Jesse Malin's band), has earned a well-deserved reputation for epic live shows with a restless fervor and sweaty intensity on stage. Angels of Destruction! is a triumph for the hard-working group. Sonically and lyrically it captures the ferocious, chaotic spirit and soul that defines rock 'n' roll.

"This is an album of themes... religion, destruction, redemption and joy" explains band founder and primary songwriter David Bielanko. "From the first song on our first album to the last song on our last album, we put everything into this shit."

Musically, it is a densely layered record, with shifts of style and tempo -sometimes several times within one song. One hears everything from a saxophone and a Gibson Les Paul to bagpipes and bird chirps. Angels of Destruction! contains just as many vaudeville, old-time and jazz references as it does straight ahead rock 'n' roll. Newcomer Christine Smith adds a new element to the Marah sound with her deft piano flourishes and keen melodic sense.

The follow up to 2005's lauded If You Didn't Laugh You'd Cry (Yep Roc), Angels of Destruction! promises to be a breakthrough record for this great American band. IYDLYC was named the #1 album of the year in Entertainment Weekly by Stephen King. Mojo hailed IYDLYC to be their "strongest effort to date" and Uncut described the record as "a resounding triumph."

Angels of Destruction! features David Bielanko on guitar, vocals and banjo, Serge Bielanko on guitar, vocals and harmonica, Christine Smith on piano, Adam Garbinski on guitar, Kirk Henderson on bass and trumpet and Dave Peterson on drums.
Marah will be touring extensively behind this record with the first US dates starting in mid-January 2008. Stay tuned for more information.
