This Graham, N.C., indie label, founded by childhood friends Glenn Dicker and Tor Hansen (who also founded Redeye Distribution), is widely recognized for its uncompromising artist friendly nature. Heavy on seasoned vets like John Doe, Paul Weller, and Nick Lowe, but also representing young talent like Cities, Simple Kid, and American Princes, Yep Roc gives solace to the soulful and adventurous. Each release seems like an event, where artists are stretching into musical territory previously uncharted. Robyn Hitchcock's off-the-cuff collaboration with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and Robbie Fulk's recent offering show these two at their most inspired. Although its heart lies mainly in American roots music, there's hardly a label out there that has the range and diversity of Yep Roc.
