2007 is shaping up to be a banner year for Paul Weller in the U.S. All six of his upcoming shows (Three in New York and Three in Los Angeles) are sold out and the anticipation of these shows is building to a fever pitch... "Seeing Paul Weller in concert now necessitates selling your car, your furniture, and possibly your soul" - Village Voice 1-19-07 "Weller's currently performing full-band versions of Jam and Style Council songs for the first time since dissolving those acts, a prospect that has U.S. fans salivating to the point where, although Weller's never enjoyed anything more than cult status stateside, his three-night stand at New York's Irving Plaza at the end of January sold out in less than three minutes, and a third night at Hollywood's Avalon (where he plays February 3, 4 and 5) had to be added to meet similar demand." - LA Weekly 1-24-07 Following the conclusion of these historic shows, Weller will release his latest single in the U.S.: "Wild Blue Yonder" at all of the major download outlets (iTunes, Emusic, Rhapsody, etc.) on February 20th. Upon its release in the UK - the song debuted in the Top 10. Hit Parade, Weller's first ever career spanning CD (and limited edition four CD box) arrived in U.S. stores this week. It marks the first time all of Weller's material (Jam/Style Council/Solo) has been collected in one single set. A two-disc DVD collection will be released on February 6. Recently, Weller rejected an offer to become a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in her New Year Honours list. His UK spokeswoman commented: "Paul was surprised and flattered, but it wasn't really for him." In the past both John Lennon and David Bowie turned down similar honors from Buckingham Palace. 2007 marks the 30 year anniversary of the beginning of Paul Weller's career. In 1977, Weller's first band The Jam released their debut album In The City and overnight Weller became one of the most influential songwriters of his generation internationally. Between 1977 and 1982 The Jam released six wildly successful albums and still hold the UK record for most simultaneous Top 75 singles with 13 of their songs charting in 1982 the week they announced their break up. The band's legendary song "Town Called Malice" from their final album The Gift was a smash success for them in the U.S. Following his dissolvement of The Jam, Weller turned his attention to his new project: The Style Council. His new band scored 19 consecutive hits on the UK charts including "My Ever Changing Moods" which was the band's breakthrough song here in the United States. The Style Council also held a coveted slot performing at the original Live Aid. Since 1992, Weller has been a solo artist, releasing eight critically acclaimed studio albums. His third - Stanley Road - is considered one of the best British rock albums of all time. Just this year, Paul Weller was awarded the coveted Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at The Brits (the UK version of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award). It was a fitting tribute to a man whose music single-handedly shaped the sound of the UK music scene forever and inspired countless artists to pursue their musical careers. Paul Weller can be seen all over the U.S. airwaves beginning next week when he performs "Running On The Spot" on Late Night With Conan O'Brien on January 31st, and will perform a different song on Jimmy Kimmel Live on February 6.
