Apples Logo Contest Winners Announced!

We are very pleased to announce the winners of the logo contest!

In the first review of something like 175 entries we just picked designs that looked great, based on pure visual appeal. This did not narrow things down too much, as there were a lot of really nice designs-- some elegant, some clever, some psychedelic, some cartoony-- there were so many good designs, which if we had just been given any one of them for a t-shirt or poster, without viewing them all together, we would not have hesitated to use.

In the second review we imagined each design as if you were to catch a glimpse of it on somebody's car bumper, guitar case, t-shirt at a show, or button on their jacket-- we thought a band logo should either instantly draw attention to the band's name, or be recognizable as an emblem without having to be read-- or should grab your attention visually and make you take a second look. In a democratic process we decided on the final batch, and everybody agreed that the final selections best fit the above criteria, even though we all had favorite designs which did not make it.

But we could not settle on a single logo as the first place-- it was hard enough to narrow the pool of excellent designs down to a handful-- which is not such a bad problem to have, that is, too many talented designers-- so I asked contest sponsor Yep Roc Records if we could have two winners, as it was impossible to choose between our two top choices. Yep Roc gave us the thumbs up so...

The Apples in stereo are proud to announce the Two Most Magnificent Winners of the Coveted Grandiose Prize Cup of the International The Apples in stereo Two-Dimensional Logo Construction Contest.

Here's what they win: The use of their logo/ design on The Apples in stereo merchandise, a signed poster, signed CD/LP, and two tickets to The Apples in Stereo show of his/her choice. "The winning logo will also be used on appropriate merchandise by The Apples In Stereo. Credit for logo design will be included on the band's website and anywhere else credit is generally received."

In addition the Five Most Holographically Stunning Celebrated First Prize Ornamental Goblet Recipients are:

Bryan Byczek

Betty Louis

Chris Morris

Ferren Christou

Greg Vanderpool

These five first prize winners get signed posters and (unsigned) CDs.

These pieces are the most attractive, striking, and generally reproducible logos of a very large group of attractive, striking, and reproducible images!

Thank you all very much for your wonderful artwork, it was a lot of fun for us to watch the entries come in. There were so many neat, interesting, eye-catching pieces added every day, we knew we had our job cut out for us well in advance of the contest deadline.

Also, if it is okay with everybody, we would like to keep all of these designs and your contact information on file, for possible future use and if we wish to commission art for merchandise, posters, record covers, and such.

These entries comprise an awesome portfolio which we would like to keep on hand, as we often need art for singles and stuff.

Thanks again everybody,

Robert Schneider
