Yep Roc artists Caitlin Cary, Claire Holley, Southern Culture on the Skids, Chris Stamey and Two Dollar Pistols have all contributed songs to Songs for Sixty Five Roses, featuring exclusive recordings of North Carolina artists covering songs by fellow North Carolina artists. One hundred percent of the album's proceeds will go to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 18-song album spans decades of North Carolina music history. Caitlin Cary covers Goner's "Battleground Park", Claire Holley covers Harold & Funck's "Lion Song," Two Dollar Pistols do Superchunk's "Driveway to Driveway," Southern Culture on the Skids perform labelmates The Moaners' "Everybody Wants My Baby" and Chris Stamey reprises "Nothing is Wrong" from his days with The dBs. The project originated with musician and producer John Plymale. In June 2004, John's 2 1/2 year old daughter Allie was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a life shortening genetic disease. The facts of the disease are devastating — the median age for survival for a person with CF is only 33 years old. Once Allie's care and ongoing therapy began, John felt compelled to do more and wanted to tap into his relationships producing (Superchunk, Meat Puppets, Squirrel Nut Zippers) and playing (Pressure Boys, Sex Police) music over the past twenty years to try to create something positive out of the situation. Other tracks feature the songs of Superchunk, Ryan Adams, Rick Rock, Let's Active, Metal Flake Mother, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, James Taylor, Stillhouse, Randy Travis, Des Ark, Fetchin' Bones, Queen Sarah Saturday and Michael Kelsh, performed by a wide variety of musicians.
