Redeye Distribution and Barsuk Records Sign US Distribution Deal.
Redeye Distribution and Barsuk Records have signed a deal that, as of August 4th 2008, will make Redeye the exclusive distributor of CDs and vinyl records for Barsuk in the US. "This is a very big deal for Redeye as Barsuk is a label with a proven track record of great A&R, a tremendous catalog and a ton of integrity. We’re extremely proud to be working with the whole Barsuk team and are thrilled to get rolling with their new signing, Ra Ra Riot, a band that has loads of potential and is just fantastic," explains Glenn Dicker, co-owner of Redeye Distribution.
Seattle-based Barsuk Records is counted by many among the premier North American indie-rock labels, home not only to the first five albums by Death Cab for Cutie (including the gold-certified 2003 breakthrough Transatlanticism), but also to an acclaimed series of releases over the last ten years from Nada Surf, Menomena, Mates of State, Rilo Kiley, The Long Winters, Rocky Votolato, Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter, John Vanderslice, and others. "Redeye's excellent reputation among their client labels and retailers, their recent track record of scrappy, labor-intensive growth, and the great people there in every department from sales and operations to marketing and finance were all essential factors in giving us the confidence that we needed to make this move,"notes Barsuk co-founder Josh Rosenfeld. "I can't say enough good things about the great people at our longtime distributor ADA [Alternative Distribution Alliance] and the decision to make a change was a difficult one, but looking to the future we’re very excited about our new relationship with Redeye." Founded in 1996 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Redeye Distribution has grown from a small regional supplier to an international distributor recognized eight times by the National Association of Record Merchandisers (NARM) as the Distributor of the Year (small division). Redeye Distribution was built with the goal of providing the best possible service to our customers and our distributed labels (such as Luaka Bop, Daptone, Warp, Babygrande, Yep Roc, Northern Blues and Friendly Fire) and artists (including The Faint, Widespread Panic, Bauhaus, Cake, Public Enemy, The Donnas, and Lisa Loeb) offering a diverse but selective catalog of quality music and a knowledgeable, hard-working, friendly staff who are passionate about getting music into the marketplace. |
