Music group joins local sponsors to benefit Toys for Tots and Blank Children’s Hospital
(DES MOINES, IA) - - October 2, 2003 - - Des Moines rock band, The Nadas headline the 1st ever Nada Silent Night concert to benefit the Marine Corps’ “Toys For Tots” program and Blank Children’s Hospital. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday November 28 & 29 at the landmark Hoyt Sherman Place Theater (1501 Woodland Ave.).
Conceived by Doc Williamson, the manager for The Nadas, the goal is to raise funds and awareness for Des Moines’ children in need. Steve Stephenson, Medical Director for Blank remarks, “The Nadas’ involvement is a spectacular addition to our holiday fundraising efforts - not only because of the group’s popularity, but each of the band members is actively involved in the local community through the Greater Des Moines Partnership as well as other social organizations. These gentlemen are committed to helping raise a significant amount of money for the hospital with the intention that this year be the first of many annual events. We could not have asked for more ideal entertainment.” Adds Jason Walsmith, co-vocalist and guitarist for The Nadas, “We have a special affinity for the hospital because my wife gave birth to our first child there last month.” The site is the legendary Hoyt Sherman Place Theater, which began undergoing renovations last summer. As the first public performance in the newly renovated venue, Executive Director, Leisha Barcus comments, “We couldn’t be more excited to re-gift this theater to the community with such a worthwhile event. It’s exciting to be a part of helping the Toys for Tots drive and our neighbor, Blank Children’s Hospital. Nada Silent Night will really make Hoyt Sherman Place come alive again.” Box office proceeds will be donated to the Blank Children’s Hospital. Concert attendees are required to bring a new, unopened toy for an underprivileged child. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 6 and are priced at $25 in advance and $30 day of show.
