Gold Standard Labs joins Redeye Family

Redeye Distribution is proud to announce the signing of a world-wide exclusive distribution and digital deal with the label, Gold Standard Laboratories (GSL). Prior to the move, GSL was with Mordam Distribution, which had recently been bought out by Lumberjack Distribution.

Gold Standard Laboratories (GSL) was founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1993 by Sonny Kay. Initially concerned with releasing local bands only, the scope of the label expanded dramatically with its relocation to Berkeley in 1996, Ushering in a stream of early and influential releases by The Locust, !!!, The Faint, The Rapture and Outhud, among others. GSL relocated to San Diego in 2000 and finally to Los Angeles in 2003, all the while maintaining a steady flow of releases by the newest and most exciting bands to cross their proverbial plate.

In 2001, Kay joined forces with Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta, who came on board GSL as co-owner, and the label subsequently became synonymous with that band's releases. GSL first released the Mars Volta "Tremulant EP" in 2002 on CD and 12" vinyl, which has sold well over 55,000 copies according to Neilsen Soundscan. The label then followed up with vinyl versions of De-Loused in the Comatorium and 2005's Frances the Mute, the latter of which is on a triple-vinyl beautiful package, and has sold over 10,000 copies according to the label.

Currently home to the likes of 400 Blows, Gogogo Airheart, The Jai-Alai Savant, Veronica Lipgloss & The Evil Eyes, and Kay's own Year Future, GSL remains committed to the exposure of truly groundbreaking music by people with a genuinely unique artistic approach.

GSL owner Sonny Kay comments: "I'm very enthusiastic about the possibilities Redeye opens up to us, not the least of which is getting records into places we haven't been able to before, on a consistent basis. The staff and atmosphere at Redeye convinced me that the company is operated by people with a true love for what they do and an eagerness to prove themselves to us, the label, which in itself is very inspiring." Redeye's A&R Director, Stephen Judge concludes, "We are extremely excited to have Gold Standard Labs join our growing label family, Sonny and his staff bring to the table equal passion and enthusiasm for their music and a level of respect and dedication that we are very proud to be have join our family and be associated with. We look forward to a very prosperous and long-term relationship where both of companies can grow together for years and years to come."

GSL's catalog will be introduced in early November with two new releases: The Jai-Alai Savant "Thunderstatement" and Gogogo Airheart "Rats, Sing, Sing!" both slated for November 15th.
