13th Floor Elevators: Psychedelic Circus
![]()
The 13th Floor Elevators were a true psychedelic rock band, when psychedelic didn't refer to an ambiguous fashion, but to true LSD culture. Coming out of the garage rock movement in Texas, Roky Erickson, Stacy Sutherland, Tommy Hall and the rest of the band quickly rose to local and then (for a minute) national prominence before burning out. This 15-song collection represents the best of the live recordings made in Texas and California in 1966 and 1967, when the Elevators were at their peak of creativity. The song selection includes their only nationally charting hit "You're Gonna Miss Me", as well as songs like "Rollercoaster" and "Fire Engine", which were made popular decades later by Spacemen 3 and Televison, and contemporary covers such as Buddy Holly's "I'm Gonna Love You Too" and The Beatles "The Word". With the 'electric jug' in full effect, this CD documents an important moment in American music - The 13th Floor Elevators, in all their acid-drenched glory.
