As a founding member of both The New York Dolls and The Heartbreakers as well as a highly respected solo performer, Johnny Thunders was a hugely influential figure in the development of punk in the ’70s. His screeching, penetrating guitar sound was distinctive and highly imitated, inspiring legions of punk guitarists including Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) & Mick Jones (The Clash) as well as the Dead Boys and Tom Verlaine from Television.
