Subba-Cultcha Album Review

Eli and his band bring Boston’s funk to the masses, expect your body to dance, whether you want to, or not!

The Blues, the foundations on which most modern music is built, be it rock & roll, hip-hop or all manner of other genres. Open to interpretation and shaped by each new generation, Blues is the hardest genre to pin down, yet it’s everywhere, so a huge chunk of music is Blues. So we come to Eli Reed and his band serving up funk driven soul that’s somewhere between Louis Jordan and James Brown - bloody marvellous! This, then, is the Blues at it’s most upbeat and exciting, propelling feet across dance floors and forcing even the most upright, whitest of people (me, basically) onto the dance floor with limbs flailing in all directions. I’ll be honest, this didn’t look at all appealing, but the tracks hare have rapidly wormed their way into the subconscious and even when the band slow down into a ballad there’s an unstoppable momentum to these Boston based performers. Seek this out, you really will not regret it!
