Reckless Kelly to play special day-of-release show for "Bulletproof" in Austin, Texas

Roots-rock rogues Reckless Kelly will celebrate the release of their seventh album, Bulletproof, with a special Tuesday night show in Austin on its street date, June 24, and an in-store appearance earlier that day.

Reckless Kelly plays their Bulletproof release show at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Antone's, 213 W. Fifth St. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 day of show; information: 512.320.8424. Alt-country combo The Gougers opens the show.

Earlier, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Reckless Kelly makes an in-store appearance at Austin's Waterloo Records & Video, 600 N. Lamar Blvd., to meet fans and play cuts from the new album, which has been called by Nashville Scene "... their most tuneful record yet... Far from being mindless road warriors, these hard-working guys have depth and an eye for detail..."

The band consists of lead singer Willy Braun, brother Cody (fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), lead guitarist David Abeyta, bassist Jimmy McFeeley and drummer Jay Nazz. Powered up with distinct rock energy and a Skynyrd-inspired Southern guitar sound, the songs are as spirited as the 1870s Australian gangster/folk hero Ned Kelly, who lent his name to and continues to inspire the band, and whose dramatic image (guns drawn and armor-clad) is featured on the album's cover.

Among tour dates to come, Reckless Kelly takes the time to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" at several baseball games, including June 27 in Houston before the Astros' game against the Boston Red Sox. Fans of the band may have seen the Braun brothers and Abeyta perform the National Anthem early in May at Chicago's Wrigley Field via live broadcast by WGN.

On July 5, Reckless Kelly hosts and plays during the First Annual "Sorry For Partying Music Festival" at the Tamarack Pavilion in Donnelly, Idaho; the band returns to Idaho the following month for the annual Braun Brothers Reunion Festival, August 7-9 in Challis.
