Whiskey Priest: Hungry
![]()
Whiskey Priest is former Easterly frontman Noah Hall’s solo debut. Eleven songs sung in a beautiful hushed voice, gently
impelled by acoustic plucks and strums, backed by piano, keys and various otherworldly sounds, like a celestial music box. Whiskey Priest’s debut has been compared to Kevin Tihista, Donovan, and the quieter moments of Big Star’s Third album. Whiskey Priest was raised by his stepfather's record collection. John Lennon taught him to fight; Paul McCartney taught him to love; Brian Wilson showed him it's ok to cry; Paul Simon showed him, most important of all, girls will like you if you're smart and play guitar. He rebelled a little late, after a stint in seminary, and formed his Easterly, in a mess of fuzz and jangle. Soon he found the company of Jeff Stuart Saltzman (Dolorean, Stephen Malkmus, Menomena) and began a project to record acoustic demos, which became his first solo album. Big Takeover's Jack Rabid says: “There's a hopefulness, a certain sense of innocence in his humble, hummable love songs...His voice is so dulcet but resilient, it's almost Donovan-esque.” |
