Ike Turner was already an established R&B icon before meeting Anna Mae Bullock. He’d been recording since the ’40s and, in 1951, had released what many today consider the first rock ‘n’ roll song, “Rocket 88”. But whatever success he had paled in comparison to his career once Anna Mae became Tina Turner and joined him at the front of the stage. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue was the ultimate live show, devastating audiences for more than a decade.

These recordings capture Ike & Tina at the height of their popularity. 'Proud Mary,' their first US Top Ten Pop single, had just come out and the band was at their most focused. Tina went on to become a superstar while Ike’s fortune and reputation faded, but these stellar tracks capture a magical moment in Rock history.
