Ike Turner was already an established R&B icon before meeting Anna Mae Bullock. He’d been recording since the ’40s and, in 1951, had released what many today consider the first rock ‘n’ roll song, “Rocket 88”. But whatever success he had paled in comparison to his career once Anna Mae became Tina Turner and joined him at the front of the stage.
