Carlos Del Junco: Steady Movin'
![]()
Carlos del Junco is one of the world's finest harmonica players. He has won Maple Blues Award for harmonica player of the year four times and he is a gold medal winner at the Hohner Harmonica championships in Germany.
Playing a ten-hole diatonic harmonica, Carlos has developed the unique ability to play chromatically by using a recently developed "overblow" technique taught to him by jazz virtuoso Howard Levy. Overall, this approach is richer, more expressive and communicative then the mechanized tone produced by the chromatic harmonica. Carlos is one of the very few pioneers of this riveting technique. Steady Movin' shows yet again why many people think Carlos del Junco is the greatest harmonica player alive - the Toronto Star claims that del Junco elevates the harp to the equivalent of a Stradivarius violin! The album bursts with creative energy - this jazz-blues album will make everybody want to dance. And, along with del Junco's innovative playing is the magic guitar of Kevin Breit (he played guitar for Norah Jones). These two players stretch every boundary possible, showing just how vibrant music can be. |
