Tender Buttons
TENDER BUTTONS is the alter-ego of Zack and K8 Wentz of the San Diego band KILL ME TOMORROW. Intending to chart a more bombastic path than KMT’s, TENDER BUTTONS arrive at a sort of cabaret-esque electronic sound, in their own words a “fractured, neo-industrial, polyrhythmic” concoction, referencing “classic song structures from the era of Tin Pan Alley, early jazz, vintage samba, and hits from the height of the mambo craze”. The band’s live shows land somewhere between performance art and a drunken house party, typically drawing audience members into the act. The 14-track Hot Abductions is the group’s debut full-length release. A concept album of sorts, it concerns a late-night radio program specializing in “fringe” phenomena (Art Bell, anyone?). Host Max Seagull’s on-air request for listener-callers who can help “get to the bottom” of a rash of sex-related alien abductions lays the foundation for a subsequent musical journey to the depths of intergalactic perversion. As was the case with KMT’s The Garbageman and The Prostitute, Zack Wentz will be publishing a novel of the same name to coincide with with the release of Hot Abductions.
