Malajube
The adventure started two years ago from the ludico-musical association of four young guys. These meetings gave birth to Malajube, a pop-rock quartet who have literally shaken the independent rock scene ever since of the release of their first opus. With sounds oscillating between rock, punk and bubble gum pop, Malajube distinguish themselves with intelligent, meticulous texts in French, abrasive guitar, virulent bass, nervous keyboards and raging drums. Result; refreshing and explosive pop.
The band now counts three demos and their first album, Le Compte Complet, on which they had the chance to work with Martin Pelland (bass player for Montreal group The Dears) as producer. The album was independantly produced and released on the Dare To Care label in november 2004, and is still rampaging Quebec radio charts, along with Canadian and American charts also, with songs such as La Valérie, Les Dents, Le Robot Sexy, Le Jus de Citron and Le Métronome. The videos for the latter two have been invading Musiqueplus' airwaves since their release.
Malajube received two awards at this year’s MIMI (Montreal Independant Music Initiative) Gala which rewards artists from Quebec’s alternative music scene. The prizes : Étoile Montante (rising star) and NOVA (innovative style), enabled them to represent Montreal alongside The Hot Springs for Pop Montreal’s off Tour in Ontario, where they also gave played two mind-blowing gigs at this years North By North East Festival, which were followed by invitations to play at festivals such as; Pop Montreal (2003-2004-2005), Coup de CÅ"ur Francophone (2003-2005), La Fête Nationale (2005), Woodstock en Beauce, Les Francofolies de Montréal (2005), and many more.
So with all these shows behind them, Malajube, in other words, Julien Mineau (lyrics, vocals, guitar), Francis Mineau (drums), Mathieu Cournoyer (bass) and Thomas Augustin (keyboard), has been hiding away in a studio to record the already long awaited follow-up of Le Compte Complet to be released in February 2006.
