This weekend Boston's foremost garage / soul / rock 'n' roll dynamo, The Downbeat 5 prepare to rock the socks off of die-hard Red Sox fans and die-hard rock and rollers alike with a double header of somewhat baseball related events.

Following up last week's appearance on NESN's National Red Sox broadcast, the band is set to take the field at Boston's Fenway Park on Friday, August 24th to play the Sonicbids Side Stage at Hot Stove, Cool Music: The Fenway Park Sessions.

This marks the third year in a row the band has been chosen to play Theo Epstein's annual charity fundraiser - which benefits The Foundation To Be Named Later, a branch of the Red Sox Foundation - and the first time they've been invited to play the Summer event at the famed stadium. (The've played on the past two Winter Benefits, which were held at The Paradise.)

Serving as an unofficial warm-up, the DB5 will step up to the plate at the aptly named The Baseball Tavern on Thursday night, for a friendly face off against fellow Beantowners The Crushing Low & Melt.

In other Downbeat 5 news, on September 8th the band will reunite with SXSW show partners Australia's Hoodoo Gurus for a gig at The Middle East; but that's a subject for another press release.
