MOJO gives Bluegrass 4 stars!
A welcome return from the Zelig of Nashville.
Lauderdale's opened for such diverse acts as George Clinton and Johnny Cash, penned songs for George Jones, Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless and just about everyone who knows a well-formed melody and nifty lyric when one comes their way. He's worked with the Dead's Robert Hunter and even grabbed a Grammy for a bluegrass album he cut with Ralph Stanley. A gifted performer with a voice moulded in bar-room blues heaven, he doesn't just offer the usual array of breakdowns and traditional bluegrass ware but has original, almost crossover songs that site well amid a fast-picked or high-lonesome backing. "There Goes Bessie Brown" is one such winner, while "Who's Leaving Who?" proves that confusion equals total enjoyment and "Don't Blame The Wrong Guy" is truly the real thing. -Fred Dellar |
