The latest outing from Juliana Hatfield picks up the tempo and turns up the volume but retains Juliana’s steely commitment to stark instrumentation and impenitent lyrics. “Made In China,” her first CD on her own label, Ye Olde Records, is an artist’s dream; Juliana notes, “Now that I have my own label, I can do whatever I want. This album sounds like me to me. I wanted to make an album quick and raw, without too much agonizing or conscious thought. ” And she has. The album was recorded at the Windham in Bellows Falls, VT, which is the new home of longtime Hatfield affiliates, Fort Apache Studios. Hatfield is joined on “Made In China” by Joe Keefe (guitars), Ben Smith (bass) and Sebastian Keefe (drums).
