"Chapel Hill, NC's Cities dropped their self-titled debut album last spring, and they're already experimenting with that album's brand of post-punk on the forthcoming release Variations (out Oct. 3), a remix album of the tracks off their first full-length. "Capitol," originally a darkly dramatic throwback, is transformed into a rubbery, futuristic gem by California-based production team Free the Robots. Luckily, the chorus is just as soaring, even when frontman Josh Nowlan's solid pipes become layered under synthetic blips."
