Black Sunday
Memphis TN?s Alicja Trout is the busiest, and well on her way to being the most well known woman in the
underground. Best known for being the co-frontperson of the massively influential punk-meets-darkwave
Lost Sounds, she can also be found leading such bands/projects as Nervous Pattern, Mouserocket, River
City Tanlines, The Fitts, The Clears and more. She?s also well on her way to becoming one of the most
sought after producers in punk rock, co-recording not only her own many projects, but also such bands as
Reigning Sound, The Ponys, Catholic Boys, and lots more at her own Tronic Graveyard Studio.
Add to that running her own label/mailorder, Contaminated Records, and Alicja is undoubtedly the most productive and prolific person in punk rock.
Where she found time to record a masterpiece like Tronic Blanc, then, is a mystery to us.
Recorded mostly by Alijca on her own at Tronic Graveyard, Black Sunday melds the paranoid, futuristic
keyboard buzz of Lost Sounds with the haunting pop sensibilities of Mouserocket. Intense art-rock workouts
meet sprawling, lush soundscapes. Agressive noise rock side-by-side with undeniable pop hooks.
Comparisons to other bands (even her other projects) are utterly useless, though. In the end, this sounds
like no-one but Alicja.
In other Alicja news, look for a River City Tanlines singles comp CD in late summer on Dirtnap, followed by yet another European tour!
